MindSwitch Mondays #27: Dear Past, Thanks For All The Lessons... Dear Future, Let's Do This!
Thoughts on the Future of Education
Hi MindSwitchers!
I am beyond excited to share with you the ideas, thoughts, and news in today’s edition. They are all related to the topic I have been exploring this week: The Future of Education. This is only the beginning of this, as I hope that we can all be MindSwitchers to make the best of what the future in education awaits.
1, 2, 3. Let’s Go!
My thought on The Future of Education: 🧠
The future of work is changed as technology advances. We need to view the Future of Education looking into the future and not towards past practices like we currently do. Education should also be evolving.
What others think about the Future of Education: 💡
Jack Ma, CEO from Alibaba, “we are shifting from competition for knowledge to competition for creativity. If we continue to learn and behave like machines then we will be replaced by them.”
“You never change a system by taking the existing thing and reworking it. You’re better off changing it just by creating something brand new." — @naval
Personal Shares related to the Future of Education: 🙌🏻
K20 Educators: This week, I was asked “how do you feel? But really, How do you feel, not in a fine ok way, but how you truly feel?” My answer could only revolve around being excited, motivated, and happy. This past month I have been working as a Community Connector for K20Educators and I am beyond excited to be a part of a project that is paving the way for future educator communities. (If you are an educator, Join us, we are the largest educator community. And… it’s free!)
Synthesis: This coming Thursday, my daughter will have her first Synthesis School Session. Her words: “Mom, I can’t wait, I want to connect with friends around the world just like you do!” Seems like The Future of Education is here earlier than expected. I will be sharing our experience in the coming weeks.
Khan Academy The idea behind Khan Academy is not to create a parallel system, but to try “to determine how we can play well with the existing system.” How cool would it be for governments to start using this as a learning tool in school! I know Acton Academy El Salvador is already using it. I use this at home to replace some TV time….my kids love it!
